To commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra (SSO), Corporate Media was invited to collaborate with the Singapore Symphonia Company to develop a unique coffee table cookbook. A Symphony of Taste traces the creation and consumption of food as an analogy for classical music performance and its appreciation.

Sumptuously illustrated, and beautifully set with photographs of artistic dishes and musical instruments, the 132 page book dispenses easy-to-follow instructions for whipping up gourmet recipes, along with suggested wine pairing ideas; anecdotes about well-known performers (traversing through the corridors of music halls and kitchens); interesting tidbits (from quotes to poems and opera lyrics); and recommended listening menus to complement any dining experience. 

The limited edition of A Symphony of Taste, immediately recognizable through its eye-catching cover, comes with two music CDs featuring live concert performances by the Singapore Symphony Orchestra.

Cooking Up a Dream is a celebration of this vision. As a unique, motivational cookbook, it captures the triumph and passion of thirteen students with attitude, all of whom with the courage to dream. A special feature of the book is a series of twenty-four recipes, prize-winners among some, lovingly created by the students, offering a taste of delightful Asian cooking in both traditional and fusion styles.

Developed by Temasek Polytechnic and Corporate Media Services, Cooking Up a Dream received an international award for Best Innovative Book (English Category) at the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards 2003 in Barcelona. This is the first time a cookbook published in Singapore and written by Singaporeans has won the award. Founded by Edouard Cointreau in 1995, the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards competition is truly the international competition for cookbooks that has acquired the reputation of being the “Oscars” for food and wine books all over the world.
